Frequently Asked Questions

How long before my book is published and available?

There is no 'set' answer to this question. Manuscripts are put into the workload as received. If we have 40 ahead of yours, then you will have to wait longer than if we had 20 in front of you. We get to each and every manuscript on an equal basis. Our average experience is 60 days from being accepted to publication.

I want to make some changes, but TGS has already started working on the manuscript.

You can make revisions, but you will be charged for the 'extra' time and work involved from having to start again.

Can I have a copy of the final electronic copy going to press?

Sorry, but absolutely not. Once we agree to publish your book the final electronic edition belongs to TGS. It is proprietary and copyrightable to TGS for its work in the project. This technical portion does not belong to the author. Any publisher could take that material and reproduce the book, in essence, stealing our work without compensation to TGS. These are valuable assets of TGS. The final word edition and the final lock-down printable version are never seen by anyone outside of TGS.

I want to have two options for printing my book, can I have a copy of the cover to reproduce for the other publisher?

Again, absolutely not. These are assets of TGS. If we found our work being printed and distributed by another publisher or printer, we would immediately bring suit against that company or person.

The author should appreciate the value and security we place on our proprietary portion of their work. The author owns copyright on the WORDS which the author idealized and made the literary creation. TGS would own the rest of the book and all its technical expertise. No one, not even the author, has a right or ownership in the technical part of the publication.

What are your requirements on publishing a book or manuscript submission?

TGS accepts for publishing manuscripts that are virtually ready to publish, already edited, formatted, and so forth. Manuscripts that are not ready to publish, must be 'made' ready for publishing.

I've already prepared my manuscript but it's not in the format you request. What do I do?

You can try to change the format as noted on our Manuscript Format page or just send it on to us and let us reformat it for you. Normally we can do this much faster than a person that has never done this before. Our current rate is $50.00 an hour, billable in fifteen minute increments. Most formatting takes about two hours. Some books require much more due the difficulty of the conversion.

I've received my proof copies and there is something I want to change.

You can request changes, but if the words are what you provided in your submissions and are what we printed the cost of changes falls back on you. You really have no right of approval over formatting though we try to make the book as close as possible to what you presented us in your submissions. Some formatting is required by the machinery we employ and cannot be changed, such as smaller margins.

Can I charge moneys I owe TGS against the current or future royalties due me?

Sorry, but this is not acceptable. It creates additional bookeeping and accounting problems we do not want to deal with. It is best that you pay what you owe up front, and we pay what is due you. These are different accounting functions and we simply do not want to mix the two.

I am giving a talk at another location. Will you ship me books for this event?

As long as the order is paid for, we will be happy to drop ship them to any location you tell us to. We attempt to give 'beyond the call of duty' type service to help our authors the best way we can. Authors can also utilize our unpublished 800# on radio shows to capture as many sales as possible.

How do you market the books?

It is stated in the contract that TGS is not responsible for marketing your book. Marketing is not our primary business nor do we keep staff on the job to handle marketing of a book. We market TGS and all its books through various media and channels. From time to time depending on the media outlet we may pick a book from our line and advertise it separately. That is at our sole discretion.

I need a press kit. Can you help me?

If you send us the material you want printed for your press kit, we will print it at cost.

I want to send out review copies. Can you help?

If you have a credit card# on file with us we are more than happy to send review copies out for you. This saves you the 'extra' freight from having to pay for shipping twice.

You did something for me before, but now you say you can't.

Book sales and book publishing is a seasonal business. What TGS can do 'extra' in February it might not can do in March. This is just the nature of the business. We ask that you never call us on Mondays except to order books. This is due to the volume of business we have to catch up on that came in during the weekend when no one was working. Don't be upset if we have to call you back. There are no phones in the print shop and if the person you need to speak to is working in that area, they will have to call you back in a quieter place.
